The Gem County Sheriff's Posse Rodeo includes events for children of all ages. These events include stick horse barrels, a boot race, and goat tail un-decorating for the little ones. In addition, there will be Barrel Racing, a Flag Race, Pole Bending, a Key Hole Race, and Goat Decorating for multiple age divisions starting from age 4 through 18 and up. Muttin' Bust'n is fun to watch and a great event for school age children to participate. There is also a greased pig chase and an opportunity to compete in steer riding competition. These fun activities are free to attend, but fees apply for participation to cover costs.
The fun run/walk is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and features a two-mile walk/run and 10k run. The Kiwanis Club is responsible for many of the family-friendly, fun activities that are available during the Cherry Festival, including the craft fair and a pancake breakfast served on Saturday morning.
During the Cherry Festival, thousands will visit the Gem County Historical Village and Museum. This collection of photographs and period displays chronicles the lives of Native Americans who first lived in Gem County and pays tribute to those trappers, miners, and settlers who made the valley into what it is today. Displays include a general store, turn-of-the-century parlor, and a one-room schoolhouse.
With so much to do, it is no wonder that so many people come to enjoy the bounties of the Valley Of Plenty as they celebrate their signature fruit during the Emmett Cherry Festival. All activities are free to the public, and the atmosphere is family-friendly. The 2017 Cherry Festival will take place in Emmett on June 14th through June 17th. They hope to see you there!
